Jiu Jitsu in Tokyo

There are Jiu Jitsu schools all over Tokyo! I’ve been a member of two and they were both excellent places to train hard and meet cool people.

One school I joined called PureBread is owned by former MMA champion Enson Inoue. Enson is a great guy and a machine on the mat. I suggest staying on his good side if possible.

Another gym that I joined and I am still a member of is Strapple, owned by former champion Taira Naoyuki. Strapple stands for a combination of striking and grappling.

Strapple has gyms all over Tokyo. At the north gym in Otsuka just next to Ikebukuro I met a teacher named Masada san.

He is the owner of Strapple Ohana. Masada san is a black belt in Karate, Judo and Jiu Jitsu in addition to being a No-Gi master. He’s a very technical athlete with a love for martial arts and a true samurai spirit.

Like Rickson Gracie, he also loves to surf and he compares the art of Jiu Jitsu to surfing.
