Do you ever wonder if that guy next to you in the train has a chronic disease and that’s why he’s wearing that mask around his mouth? Don’t worry, most likely he has a cough and he’s wearing this out of courtesy so he doesn’t spread his germs.
This is another small detail about the Japanese that I’m always impressed with. It is always about being courteous towards others. I realized this one day when my sister told me she was in a train back home and people were coughing left and right and didn’t have a care in the world if they were going to get anybody else sick.

Masks here are so common that you can find them in all sorts of colors and designs. Might as well look fashionable while being sick!
