Don’t be fooled by its name, “Sony Plaza” is not a place where you can find Sony electronics. This store is like a Walmart and it’s one of my favorites in Tokyo. You can find one in almost every city and/or train station and they are easily spotted by the blue sign that says ‘Plaza’. People say its like an American drugstore but it’s more than that. You can also find Japanese products here as well.
Some are big and some are small – it depends on the city. Mini Plazas are also common and they can be found right by the train station for last minute little gifts but are very small. But the full size Plazas have the best merchandise. You can find all kinds of merchandise like gift cards, stationary, clothes, snacks, trinkets, home products…etc. The neat thing about the Sony Plaza is the odd foreign items that you can find. Missing home? Shneiders Pretzels, Tostidos Salsa, Snickers Bars, Hersheys Kisses, Cheese Puffs and Doritos are just a few of the munchies available.
I was surprised when I saw merchandise with these cartoon characters I grew up with called the “Barbapapas”. Not many people know about them but I guess the Japanese do. These characters are very hard to find… but the Sony Plaza has them!

Sony Plaza carries a variety of foreign bathroom goods and toiletries. So don’t be surprised to see a bottle of Downy Fabric Softner or a Gillette Speed Stick or even some Colgate Toothpaste.
