If you blindfolded me and dropped me in the middle of Shin Okubo, I would believe that I was somewhere in Korea.
Shin Okubo opened in the early 1900′s and is the biggest Asian minority town in Tokyo and possibly all of Japan.
It’s one station next to Shinjuku Station on the Yamanote Line towards Ikebukuro. It’s a trip worth taking if you like authentic, spicey Korean food.

Tons of restaurants are lined up all along the streets and its so hard to choose which one to go into. But you know you’re getting something good just by looking at the pictures displayed outside these shops.

This one looks like a true authentic style Korean restaurant just by looking at the outside of the shop. Looks like any food joint you see all around Tokyo but look close…this place sells chicken, Korean style!!

Sure you can get real good Yakiniku (Korean Barbeque) anywhere in Tokyo but if we want the best we go to our favorite restaurant called ” Taishikan”. Taishikan is by far the best Korean Restaurant we’ve ever been to. The staff is friendly, the service is great, the atmosphere is awesome and I don’t know where to start when it comes to the food, its just so damn good.

After a big meal theres always room for a littel dessert. Just below Taishikan is a liitle joint that sells Korean pancakes filled with red bean or cinnamon sugar. They make them right when you order so they’re always fresh and hot!

I love Shin Okubo! My husband and I go there almost every weekend.
I can’t say that they’re nicer…but the food is good and that’s all I care about.
haven’t gone there yet. Are the people nicer there than in Korea?
