The recession is causing many couples who are planning their weddings to think twice about how they spend their money. In Japan the latest trend is to hold a low cost wedding called ‘‘jimi kon’’ (no-frills wedding), or holding none at all, ‘‘nashi kon’’ (no wedding).
In recent years Japanese wedding videographers have made a bundle by providing a wide range of services for wedding couples and their families on the ‘big day’.

“Wedding Event Videographers Association International” (WEVA International) is the world’s largest trade association for professional wedding and event videographers and leads the field with education that’s on the cutting-edge of industry developments. Their 2008 “Power of Video Tour” both in Tokyo and Osaka entitled “Producing Cinematic Style Wedding Videos” was intended to acquaint attendees with new styles of wedding productions popular with US brides.
However, it seems that in 2009 Japan’s WEVA members are having a difficult time booking gigs as many couples are opting for more cost effective, traditional still photos instead.
