Baby Store: Akachan Honpo

Moving back to Tokyo with our newborn baby was a journey of its own and to have finally found a one stop baby wonderland called Akachan Honpo in Tokyo was a dream come true. I was literally floored when I heard about this place because after all these years I was relying on Toys R Us for anything baby. I went to Lalaport Tokyo Bay and headed straight for Akachan Honpo.

It’s bright red…you can’t miss it. Akachan Honpo literally means, “baby store,” but this is much better than any baby store I’ve ever seen.

Akachan Honpo

Clothes, shoes, toys, diapers, strollers, you can find anything here! Funky Monkey pants for 790 yen and leg warmers are just way too cute! Get Funky Monkey – they have extra room in the tooshie area and I can only find them in Japan. Get a point card and start saving immediately. You’ll get a coupon book after signing up which took me only five minutes.

Take a walk into the baby room. The entire wall is lined with cute changing stations which are padded and seem very comfortable.

There was also a water station on the other side of the room. These machines dispense Hot and Cold water. Its so great to have these handy, you never know when you might need to warm up your baby’s formula or just have clean water. Right next to this station was a little room for moms who want a little privacy while nursing.

I really enjoyed the whole experience of shopping at Akachan Honpo. Unlike Toys R Us or Babies R Us, this place just seemed more catered to the mom and her needs. Just the whole experience inside the baby room made me feel like they actually took the time and care to make you feel comfortable shopping in their store. I will definitely go back but maybe check another store in another city!
