SCAJ World Specialty Coffee Conference & Exhibition 2009

colombia

On Friday my Colombian friends invited me to the The World Specialty Coffee Conference at The Tokyo Big Sight Convention Center. The turnout was great and the event was a success. Thank you very much for the invitation!

I made some pals at the Colombian Independence Day Festival a few months ago and we’ve kept in contact. I was even lucky enough to have some Colombian home cooking which I’ll write about later.

The Colombian Coffee Growers Federation was a Gold Sponsor of the event. They’ve existed for over 80 years and represent more than 500 thousand families dedicated to growing coffee. I spent some time at their booth – nice people.

Why is Colombian coffee so good?
Coffee Arabica, commonly called Arabica, is considered the highest quality beans and therefore are usually more expensive. They grow best in high altitudes and produce a very flavorful and aromatic coffee, low in caffeine and acidity. In Colombia, Arabica is exclusively grown.

If you’ve been to Miami then you’ve seen these espresso machines. Nobody does it like the Cuban ladies at David’s Cafe in Miami Beach.

I saw the electric version of my espresso maker. Hmm… not a bad idea. I’d prefer to use an electric model if I didn’t have a gas stove. Right now I’m all set but you never know what the future may hold.

Coffee is huge in japan! I bet it was a jam packed event. Nice to see you made some friends.

Ahh… that espresso machine looks amazing. I should try to make an effort to use coffee shops with proper espresso machines and baristas.
