Although you may not have heard about this recipe before, this is a very popular dish next to the ever so popular curry rice in Japan. This dish is made of demi glace sauce that you can buy in packs or cans at the local Japanese supermarket. This is a key ingredient in this recipe and having demi glace sauce handy in your cupboards is a must!! I like to add potatoes and carrots to spice it up a bit!

Potatoe Korokke

ポテトコロッケ- POTATO KOROKKE

In Japan we have our own version of mashed potatoes. We make balls and fry’em! This is also a favorite of mine since I was little and I’m sure everyone else will agree with me on this one. You can eat them as a side dish but because we add ground meat in these, it’s also a considered a meal, just dont forget to have some greens on the side.

Vegetable Curry Soup

たっぷり野菜のカレー意込み- VEGETABLE CURRY SOUP

This is a totally different recipe than your regular curry with rice dish. When I was young, I didn’t really like curry with rice, so my mom used to make me this soup instead. It wasn’t the curry flavor I didn’t like; I think it was just the thick texture of the curry with rice that I wasn’t used to when I was a kid. This recipe always made me happy because I was the only one who had it at the dinner table.

Menchi Katsu

メンチカツ- MENCHI KATSU

This recipe is like a fried individual meatloaf. Cabbage is added to this but you can substitute it with green peppers, eggplant, asparagus or any of your favorite vegetable. This dish is also served with TONKATSU sauce called Bulldog Sauce, found in any Supermarket in Japan.
