Shirasu Don

Enoshima is famous for shirasu which can be eaten raw or cooked. Today, during a short getaway to Shonan Beach, we had cooked shirasu served ‘don-buri’ style (in a large bowl on top of rice), with negitoro, tororo, egg and nori.

It was pretty warm today considering it’s already October. I’m a little sunburned – it feels great to get some color right before winter.

Shonan Beach

Shonan Beach is a great place to get away from the city. It’s totally chill compared to other parts of Japan and it’s only one hour from Tokyo – easily accessible by train or by car. It’s a straight shot from Shinjuku on the Odakyu line heading west. It’s a must see if you’re in Japan during the summertime and if you go, make sure you eat ‘shirasu‘ which is what the area is famous for.
