This website is run by Billy, a guy from Florida who moved to Japan in 1999 with intentions of staying for only a few months to teach English. I ended up staying much longer- 10 years to be exact.
Much of the content on this blog is related to tattoos, photography, mixed martial arts and food.
about me::
the language:
I’m a native English speaker… but I went to a proper school in Shibuya and studied the Japanese language. I also learned a lot from friends and from watching Japanese television.
career:
I didn’t last long as an English teacher. Although it was fun teaching conversational English to adults, teaching children was not for me! I got outa there quickly and eventually became self employed importing & exporting various items such as professional video equipment and electronics.
When the economy crashed in 2008 I lost my business – read all about it here. It was then that I realized it was time to change my career path… and it was then that my good friend Ami James began teaching me how to tattoo. I soon realized that tattooing is something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
I’m now tattooing at Wooster St. Social Club in NYC and I’m a cast member on Discovery’s reality TV show “NY Ink”. I blog at billydecola.com and you can find me on twitter and also on facebook.
