Alpine Slalom Ski

My family and I went to Whistler today to support my friend Akira Sasaki who was competing in the 2010 Olympic Alpine Slalom Ski event. It started early AM and weather was mixed rain/snow.

There were 102 people in the event and only 30 would qualify to compete for the gold. Akira’s first run was good enough to get him through – he was 13th overall! The crowd went wild.

Akira didn’t win a medal today; he was disappointed. But he did a great job and his family and friends are very proud of him.

He was all smiles after the event – class act!

You can check out Akira Sasaki’s website here and if you are a skier or snowboarder then make sure you visit the “Emusi Official Website” where you can find goggles, hoodies, t-shirts, sweatpants and other winter sports related gear and fashion (JP only).

Tokyo.Japan Times launch

With the launch of the new “Tokyo.Japan Times” website I now realize the power of the Mirai Gaia platform designed by Danny Choo. The partnership was announced back in Nov. of last year.

I’ve read some posts by Danny about UCG or “User Generated Content” – known in Japan as CGM or “Consumer Generated Media” – and it looks like this platform is the future of the web. I absolutely love the design and functionality and I would give my pinky finger to be able to use it for a project I’m working on at the moment – which is bringing my family and I back to Miami Beach in mid-March.

I joined the Tokyo Japan Times community – my profile is here – and I plan on submitting content on a regular basis. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the site develops. I have no doubt in the platform however I do wonder how the moderators will handle the load when the submission count skyrockets. Quality control of user generated content is a must!

Alpine Slalom Skiing – Olympics 2010

Thanks to Mr. Akira Sasaki of the Japanese Olympic team… my wife and I now have access to Whistler mountain and will be attending the 2010 Winter Olympic Alpine Slalom Skiing event on February 27th.

The “Sea to Sky” pass is to access the mountain by car. Without this pass there is no entry. There’s no seating so we’ll be standing in a group cheering on my man! Good luck Akira!!! Bring home the GOLD.
